Meet the TR

Welcome to Leading Light Therapeutic Recreation Services. I am Kristen Dawson, Founder, and Recreation Therapist here at Leading Light! From a young age, I knew I wanted to "help people." Throughout my youth, I had the opportunity to explore a variety of sports, art activities, and outdoor adventures. Through these experiences, I saw firsthand how these recreational activities helped me cultivate meaningful relationships, connect to my community and support my physical and mental health.

 

In university, I pursued a Bachelor's Degree completing a double major in psychology and sociology. I knew after my undergrad I wanted to find a way to use the experiences I had been so fortunate to have growing up and my knowledge of psychology to support those around me. With this goal in mind, I furthered my education by completing a post-graduate diploma in Therapeutic Recreation and register Therapeutic Recreation Ontario with my R/TRO designation.

 

Following the completion of my post-graduate diploma, I worked in a variety of mental health care settings supporting a wide variety of populations. My vast experience in mental health, my commitment to ongoing education, and my desire to support you are what drive me.

I believe in taking a client-centered approach to my practice where you are the guide and I support in providing the tools needed to help you reap the benefits of all the activities you enjoy to promote optimal well-being and meaningful engagement.
